In 1953 The First Accessory Factory invested by the nation was established, producing 17 kinds of accessories such as carburetor.

In 1958 The First Accessory Factory was renamed as Beijing Automobile Works. Mr. Zhu De, one of the founders of P.R China and the chief commander of People's Liberation Army, inscribed the name.

In 1984 Beijing Jeep, Ltd. (BJC) was combined with AMC, an American carmaker, to found the first joint venture company, producing middle and top class off-road vehicles.

In 1987 After combined with Beijing motorcycle company, the Beijing Automobile and Motorcycle United Company (BAM) was founded, producing lower and middle class off-road vehicles.

In 1994 Beijing Automobile Assembly (BAA) was established, producing special light off-road vehicles.

In 1997 Beijing Foton was founded by cooperating with other 99 Chinese companies and achieved IPO in 1998, specializing in developing and manufacturing business vehicles.

In 2001 Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd(BAW) was founded based on modern enterprise model.
